WOMEN in Rugby are being warned to be on their guard when out alone at night.
It follows an attack on a woman in the town centre late on Tuesday night.
The 33-year-old victim was cycling home from work at about 11.15pm and was in Moultrie Road when she was pounced on by a man who had been hiding in bushes.
The man, who LV Bracelet also had a bike, grabbed her and held a weapon to her throat.
He ordered her to hand over her handbag and when she refused he tried to grab it.
The woman fought him off and managed to escape.
Brass RingsWarwickshire police spokeswoman Cathy Ward said the woman was unhurt, but was badly shaken.
She said: "We would urge women not to be out late at night on their own, but if they have to be they should always try to keep handbags or purses concealed.

"And they should always stick to well-lit roads."
The man was thin and wearing a dark fleece top and a scarf over the lower part of his face.
